Eating Honey - should we?

Bees are strongest when they feed on honey. The worker bees feed the queen and male drones while sharing food equally among themselves. If there is a shortage of food, typically the queen will be the last to starve and the drones will be killed. Any bee can ask for food from any other bee and if they have it, they share it. This makes the starvation of a hive a swift event which is difficult to reverse once it starts.

Honey should be revered and eaten in moderation, especially in times of shortage and stress as we have now. It's worth thinking about this when you next buy honey and ask;

  • By buying imported honey - have I exported stress to bees elsewhere?
  • Has the honey producer taken honey and replaced it with damaging corn syrups or sugar?
